A scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark - The Adaptation

By braddock | April 27, 2008

This is just pure brilliance. Three kids from Mississippi spent almost half their lives making a shot for shot recreation of The Raiders of the Lost Ark. I’m very close in age to these guys, and Raiders had much the same effect on me.

I remember gathering my friends in the backyard with my dad’s 8 mm camera and planning our own movie. We tried to do some scenes from Raiders and even did a little stop motion with poorly constructed clay figures for some of the stunt action. In the end our short attention spans and lack of any real talent led to a scrapping of the project in its infancy. By infancy I mean lunch that day.

These guys were different though. They stuck with it and finished the damned thing. They made a complete reconstruction of the movie. You can actually see the characters age as the movie goes on.

This thing even has the blessing of Lucas and Spielberg. They both love it. I understand there may even be a movie chronicling the creation of this adaptation.

If you want to know more about these guys and Raiders: The Adaptation click the link. There are showings all over the states these days. There’s a calendar to see if its coming your way any time soon as well. The little dog as the evil monkey is just fantastic.
