Google News Plugin for WordPress is a great way to add news content to your blog
By braddock | May 1, 2008
I have been mucking around with plugins to put some news content on my blog for a couple of days now. I found a really good one today.
The Google News Plugin pulls from the Google News RSS feed and gives you 8 or so news sections to choose from. Sports, Top Stories, and Business are just a few of your choices. The cool thing is you have many different world regions you can select. Google has the whole world in its hands after all.
You have an option for how many stories you want in your feed, and you can change the feeds title to anything you want. There are also options to specify whether or not you want images in the feed and if you prefer short excerpts from the stories or a meatier description.
This is a static feed with the stories changing upon site refresh or an update by Google News.
Just upload the plugin directory to /wp-admin/plugins/ and activate it in the WordPress admin panel. You’ll have a new section under Settings that gives you the html and php coding for placement inline in your blog. There’s also a new tab under Manage that gives you access to the main options. Google News Plugin is also widget compatible.
I really like this plugin and think it looks great. It’s in action at the bottom of my right sidebar.
