I submitted my WordPress blog to the DMOZ Open Directory Project today
By braddock | May 17, 2008
I’ve really been focusing on search engine optimization for my blog lately. A good SEO strategy can mean the difference between a trickle of search referrers and a torrent.
The top tip most SEO gurus recommend is submitting your site to the major search engines and directories. Number one on my list is the DMOZ Open Directory Project. The Open Directory Project is edited and maintained by living breathing humans, no bots here.
The big automatic search engines supplement their algorithms and indexing with site information contained in the Open Directory Project. Google, Lycos, and AOL Search are just a few who depend on the Open Directory Project to power their directory services.
A listing in the Open Directory Project certifies your site is above the fray of marketing schemes, redirects, and content mills that pollute the Internet. I’m really excited about what the DMOZ Open Directory Project is doing to filter the flotsam that’s clogging the flow of valid web content, I just hope they deem me worthy. It can take weeks for your site to be reviewed by an editor, and approval is by no means guaranteed.
I feel like I just graduated from high school again, and I’m waiting by the mailbox for my college acceptance letter.
