Odiogo turns your blog into a podcast for free

By braddock | May 16, 2008

odiogo-rss-feed-podcast-audio-text-to-speech I set up Odiogo on my WordPress blog today.  Odiogo is an interesting free service that uses text to speech technology to turn your blog’s posts and RSS feed into audio.  Unlike some horrible robotic text to speech programs I’ve heard in the past, the result is pretty good.

Once you tell Odiogo your RSS feed URL it gives you a feed id number and a download link for a WordPress plugin.  Several other blog formats are supported as well.  Just install the plugin and input your feed id number in the new Odiogo Listen Button tab under settings.

Odiogo automatically places a listen now button just under the title of all your posts.  If your readers click the button they become listeners and get a text to speech reading of your posts.  Give it a try on this post.  There’s also a built in widget that will place a link to your new audio RSS feed in your sidebar.

When your visitors are listening to your posts they’ll see ready links to add your feed to iTunes or download your post or feed as an mp3.  You can turn your blog into a podcast instantly.  It’s pretty cool.  I just wish you could change the voice.  I’d like a saucy female British voice to read my feed.  She could tell me I’ve been a naughty boy after she reads each post.
