« Oh some strange things are going to happen here…the WordPress and bbPress install on Godaddy | Home | I downloaded and installed a new theme for WordPress »
Whoah, that was not as easy as expected

I’ve installed Wordpress at least seven times and the install I just endured was tough. I’ve installed on Godaddy before which made me a bit over-confident in my ability to speed install the Wordpress 2.5 package. I just wanted to pick the most secure and optimized settings possible this time.
Doing a hardened install of Wordpress on Godaddy requires a lot of passwords and waiting on the server to update. I tried to go with super strong passwords when I created my database, but Godaddy won’t let you include symbols like ! or @ or $ in your password. Make sure your database user only has lower case letters too. I had to play with it before I could get a user and pass combination accetpted.
I went ahead and activated Godaddy’s free stat tracker too. I’m going to rely mostly on Google Analytics and the great WP-Stats plugin to track my traffic though. Lots of work to be done yet, but I’m going to change this theme before Kubrick traps me in the land of the bland.
