Woopra, one more club that won’t let me in
By braddock | April 28, 2008
An apparently great new, free site stat tracking service is out in the wild. Woopra is a desktop based application that accesses your Woopra.com account and shows you your site stats graphically. That’s not all it does though. It will tell you when one of your users logs in. It allows you to initiate online chat with visitors. It even has a cool world map that tells you if someone in Western Samoa is looking at your post about knitting your cat a cardigan. Check out this eye candy:
At least that’s what I’m told it does. I have to take all that on faith because they won’t actually let me join this fancy Woopra. This free service lets you download and install the desktop application, download and install the Wordpress plugin, and even create your online account. It’s not until you try to add your blog to your account that the gotcha comes in. You see this service is invitation only.
This reminds me of the first days of Gmail, when everyone and their grandmother had a Gmail account and I couldn’t get an invite. I’m on the waiting list for Woopra though, and they say they are approving people in the invitation cue as fast as they can. I was on the waiting list for Gmail too and never got official approval from Google. I ended up getting my neighbor’s kid to send me an invite. I had to give him five bucks too.
Here’s the Woopra blog post to check on the progress of the site approvals. You can read the gleeful praises of all the cool kids who are in the club.
